Hangry

I'm not sure I've posted this word yet, but never the less, here it is:

I was just writing about this on the other blog. I am notoriously bitchy when I am not able to sate my appetite. Not just bitchy....I mean; BITCHY. I'm rude, selfish, and unabashedly immature. It's terrible how bad my mood changes when my stomach is growling.

I wish I knew a better way to cope, but seriously, this condition has not changed since I was a kid. Like I've also written in the other blog, I am pretty lucky to have been in relationships with men who went above and beyond most of the time when the Hangry Bird came resting on my shoulder. Seriously, these men deserve Nobel Peace Prizes for doing half they stuff they did when the look on my face and the tone of my voice implied that the bitch was coming.

Hangry: a state of anger caused by lack of food; hunger causing a negative change in emotional state.

It really is real. See? I'm not alone!

  1. Uh..........were you "hangry" when you were responding to comments this morning? lol Maybe a little hiatus from social networks and blogs may be in order when you're not in a nice mood.

I haven't seen you so vexed in a good long while. Something happen? Oh, and Mike has told me stories of you being "hangry". Glad I was never around for any of that. We may not be friends today if I was! (I'm sensitive like that.)

  2. I don't think they did you any favors giving into your hunger rage. You've ultimately equated food to comfort and love- something every nutritionist and psychological expert says you're not supposed to do. As soon as you decided to stay single you ended up supplementing your normal appetite with a bunch of extras to make you feel better. We know what happened from there don't we?

    1. I'm not completely disagreeing with you. I gained weight because I became complacent and lazy. It's not really any one elses fault.

  3. I like this word. I'd heard it before but I can't remember where. I get headaches and on occasion when I'm hungry and haven't eaten in hours.

I worry all the time about being too hungry that I end up eating bad foods and getting sick. Diabetes and heart failure are my big concerns.

    1. I think most people get cranky when their bodies are uncomfortable. My mood gets sour very quickly, and while most people can stay polite until they can grab a bite, I get very rude and immature. It's not something to be proud of. And I don't like drive-thru food or fast food. I don't wake up in the middle of the night craving the Golden Arches or Taco Hell. It's sort of a last resort and I feel sick after eating it.

I don't even like cold food. I like to sit down and enjoy my meal. I think we Americans need to take a page out of the Europeans way of life when it comes to a meal. They take their time, they enjoy their food and their company, and no one is scarfing down garbage...well, not true. According to the BBC, obesity is becoming a problem over there because of the introduction of things like McD's. Thanks, USA.
